Mixed wrestling is a wrestling match between female and male participants as compared to regular wrestling where it’s usually a match between man and woman. Tag team matches are also kind of the same thing as there are couples of female and male against another male and female contender. Mixed wrestling is also known as intergender wrestling. But inter-gender tag team matches are bit different from the mixed tag team matches. In a mixed tag team match, there is a governing regulation which restricts female and male players to attack each other. If a one of the wrestler tags, then the opposite team has to automatically switch their wrestler. But the player has to be of the same gender as the other team’s player. So if it’s a man in the ring then only the male player of the opposite side can come in the ring to wrestle. This type of tag team match has gotten a lot of popularity in the recent years.
To give you a little backdrop, In the past, men and female rarely contested against each other, because it was considered to be unjustified and uneven. It is fair to say that mixed wrestling was first popularized during the early 1970s to 1980s by comedian Andy Kaufman. He announced himself Champion of Intergender Wrestling. He issued an open challenge to any woman contestant. There are also other well regarded wrestlers which include Lits etc. These days intergender wrestling has grown into well liked part of events such as World Wrestling Federation.
